PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN AXIAN UNIVERSITY AND GIZ

Antananarivo, 26 january 2022

Through this new partnership, AXIAN University, the AXIAN Group’s corporate university, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) are pledging sustained efforts to develop skills that are important to Madagascar’s solar-energy sector.

AXIAN UNIVERSITY, A RENOWNED EXPERT

As part of its project PERER, which promotes electrification through renewable energy, the Germano-Malagasy Cooperative, managed by GIZ, has solicited AXIAN University’s expertise to tutor teachers and trainers from Madagascar´s Ministry of Education and Professional Training (MEPT) on photovoltaic (PV) systems.

Due to Madagascar´s energy sector´s demand, the PERER project aims to offer its beneficiaries better returns for investing in electrification through renewable energy. To this end, the GIZ is offering trainings to all educational establishments on the installation and maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) systems.

The partnership formed by GIZ and AXIAN University allows both parties to coordinate a response to the rising need for MEPT trainers and teachers. As part of its role in this partnership, and drawing on the diverse expertise of its people, AXIAN University is a six-month course that focuses on solar-energy solutions and is geared towards electrification in Madagascar. AXIAN University will also lend its support to the professional assimilation of Madagascar´s youth while closing the gap between the current job market and both immediate and long-term demand for relevant skills among companies operating in this domain.

This partnership also allows for the implementation of activities that have already been agreed upon between GIZ PERER and its parent ministry, Madagascar´s Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons (MEH), that are geared towards aligning professional training and education with the Malagasy energy industry´s skills demands.

“This partnership with the GIZ shines a commending light on AXIAN University´s educators. We are delighted and honoured to be working towards the upskilling of educators and, down the line, of the young people who will arrive on the jobs market.” Caroline Meurisse, Director of AXIAN University.
